THE GRAMPA FIELD NOTES · MORETON BAY

A day, a weekend or a week?
Find your kind of sailing escape.

You don’t need to start with a boat model. Start with the day you want to have: a picnic on an island beach, two quiet nights aboard, or a longer holiday with room for everyone to settle in.

We’re developing GRAMPA’s self-sail adventures with Moreton Bay as the first chapter. Here’s how to choose between the experiences in our plans.

Turquoise sea and the coastline of Moreton Island

If you want a small adventure, start with a day.

For a couple, or an adult and child travelling as a pair, our planned Hobie Tandem Island adventures put you close to the water. Think sailing, pedalling, a packed picnic and a return to land at the end of the day.

The boat has two seats and no cabin. In our collection, an overnight version means camping ashore, with the campsite arranged separately. It suits people who enjoy being outdoors and travelling light.

If you want a sailing weekend, keep the cabin expectations simple.

The Corsair 760 is our first planned boat: a small trailerable trimaran. Our short-escape ideas run from one to three days, with at most two nights in a compact cabin. This is a sailing weekend for a couple or small crew who value days on the water over hotel-style accommodation.

Our “Wrecks Weekend” is a proposed Moreton Island story in the adventure collection. It is an inspiration for a conversation, rather than a fixed route or guaranteed departure. Your experience, crew, handover arrangements and conditions will shape the actual trip.

If you want a longer family holiday, look for living space.

A longer holiday changes the brief. Separate sleeping areas, shared meals and comfortable time aboard matter more when you unpack for a week. That is why our future Seawind 1160 XL ideas sit in a different part of the collection.

The Seawind is a future fleet ambition. You can register interest in it now, while the initial launch focuses on smaller adventures.

What does “self-sail” mean?

You and your crew sail the boat. Tell us about your sailing experience and qualifications so we can discuss a suitable starting point. New sailors can register interest in the proposed school-led learning pathway.

Three details that help us shape your trip.

  1. Your crew. How many people are coming, and what kind of sailing have you done?
  2. Your time and comfort. Would you prefer a day trip, camping ashore or one or two nights in a compact cabin?
  3. Your handover. For self-tow, you supply a suitable tow vehicle. If you’d prefer a launched boat, tell us so we can discuss arrangements as the programme develops.

Leave room for the place itself.

Beaches, islands and wildlife make Moreton Bay worth slowing down for. Sightings happen on the animals’ terms. Our approach is to make the sailing and the time together part of the pleasure, rather than promise a particular wildlife encounter.

For current park information, explore Queensland Parks’ Moreton Bay Marine Park guide. Detailed trip planning follows once your boat, dates and operating arrangements are confirmed.

Browse first. Dream a little.

Our free, 52-page Adventure Collection contains 18 proposed experiences across the planned boats. Read it without signing up, then tell us which one feels like your kind of escape.
